If you operate a Cincinnati laser, you need to make sure that the entire system is properly maintained, including the x axis ball screw. You may not realize this, but if you have trouble with the x axis ball screw, your entire system will suffer. That's because the x axis ball screw is responsible for the fluid motion of the machinery. To help you avoid problems, here are four tips to ensure that your Cincinnati x axis ball screw is functioning properly.

Insist on Annual Inspections

When it comes to your Cincinnati laser, the most important thing you can do is insist on annual inspections. During the inspection, your x axis cover should be removed to help identify visible damage. Once the cover has been removed, you'll be able to work on your x axis ball screw and other essential components. During the inspection, be sure to check the limit switches and end bearings as well. Most importantly, inspect the x axis ball screw for signs of damage or fatigue, as well as for signs of overheating. Overheating could be an indication that your ball screw isn't receiving enough lubrication during operation.

Ensure Proper Lubrication

To ensure that your Cincinnati laser functions properly, and that you don't experience problems with your x axis ball screw, it's important that the system receive proper lubrication. If your ball screw doesn't receive adequate lubrication, your system may fail. To ensure proper operation, your ball screw should receive lubrication all the way into the ball nut. If your inspection of the ball screw shows insufficient lubrication, you need to schedule a service call right away.

Pay Attention to the Guide Blocks

If you need to refurbish or replace the x axis ball screw, don't stop there. Whenever you refurbish or replace your ball screw, you should also refurbish or replace the skates or sliders. Failing to do that could lead to serious problems for your machinery. Your x axis ball screw works in conjunction with the skates or sliders. If one component has malfunctioned, the other component will require servicing as well.

Keep the System Clean

Finally, when it comes to maintaining a well-functioning x axis ball screw, it's essential that you keep the system clean. Your laser and ball screw system should be clean and free of debris at all times. To ensure that, you need to clean the ball screw housing each time you have your system inspected. If you see grease and debris building up in the housing between inspections, you should schedule an additional cleaning.

About Me
Watching Shows About Manufacturing

Although many people don't focus too terribly much on manufacturing, it can be really interesting to watch. I started learning more and more about manufacturing a few months back, and I started by watching shows that described different processes of making things. I realized that it was powerful to explore how things were made, and I don't think I could ever go back in terms of knowing how certain items were made. This blog centers around manufacturing and how to enjoy it, since it can change your perspective on the world around you each and every single day. Read more here.
