Architects spend years learning to perfect the overall design of a building. More and more people who are investing in a custom home are choosing to have an architect involved from day one.

To better appreciate how having an architect can improve the quality of your next project, learn more about the basic services an architect can provide.

1. Initial Design

Designing is the one architectural service that most people are familiar with today.

An architect can work to take in all of your wants and needs and transform them into a schematic design that will be sure to wow your friends and family members.

The schematic design can also allow your architect the opportunity to see how spaces within your new home will relate to one another.

2. Design Development

Once an architect has the initial design in place, they can begin developing this design.

The development process starts with a critical evaluation of the design. Any changes that must be made to refine the overall design are made during the design development phase.

An architect will also generate elevations and blueprints while working with a residential design.

3.  Document Preparation

Your general contractor will ask you to sign a contract before any construction begins on your new home. It's important that you have the right documents ready to give your contractor so that they can calculate a reasonable cost for turning the blueprints into a reality.

At a minimum, you should include working drawings and detailed specifications for each aspect of the construction process. These documents make it easier to determine how much money must be charged for a contractor to meet an architect's ultimate design.

4. Bidding and Negotiations

After you are satisfied with the design your architect has created, they can move on to the bidding phase of construction. An architect can reach out to several contractors in your area to solicit bids on the construction of your home.

Contractors will use the blueprints, elevation drawings, and other documents prepared by an architect to determine how much it will cost to complete the construction of your new home.

Once all bids are in, an architect can negotiate directly with contractors to help you save as much money as possible on the construction of your new home.

5. Construction Oversight

An architect's services don't have to end once a contractor has been hired.

A good architect will be able to oversee the construction process and ensure that all aspects of your new home are built according to the blueprint you have approved.

About Me
Watching Shows About Manufacturing

Although many people don't focus too terribly much on manufacturing, it can be really interesting to watch. I started learning more and more about manufacturing a few months back, and I started by watching shows that described different processes of making things. I realized that it was powerful to explore how things were made, and I don't think I could ever go back in terms of knowing how certain items were made. This blog centers around manufacturing and how to enjoy it, since it can change your perspective on the world around you each and every single day. Read more here.
